Benefits of Spirulina

My green smoothie today is reaaallly green, thanks to the Spirulina I added to it!  What’s Spirulina? …Glad you asked!! Spirulina is an AMAZING supplement that I added to my diet after researching all of it’s super benefits!  It is literally a blue-green algae that is loaded with proteins, minerals,  vitamins, catenoids, antioxidants, and many nutrients.  It also helps protect cells from damage, boosts your immune system and is known to prevent allergic reactions and has antiviral and anticancer properties!  This super food supplement also prevents skin from aging and in general improves your overall health.  For me, I love the added benefit of the high protein content, since I don’t eat meat…Spirulina contains between 60 – 62% protein!!


Since I started adding Spirulina to my smoothies, I have noticed more of a glow to my skin and less pimples!

What’s in my green smoothie:

A couple full handfuls of spinach

One handful of Kale

4 Strawberries

half a banana

Half of a large cucumber

1 tsp of chia seeds

1 tsp of grounded flax seed

2 celery sticks

1 tsp of Spirulina (I like and trust the Pure Hawaiian brand since it’s done my body well!)

Blend all the ingredients together in your blender (I use the Magic Bullet) and enjoy!

*If the taste is too “green” for you, try adding a whole banana instead of half, and some frozen pineapple!
