Healthy Snacking: Benefits of Nuts

So I absolutely love snacking in between meals, but find that if I don’t have healthy snack options around me, I sure will reach for a dark chocolate candy bar, skittles, or whatever evil junk food that’s lurking around making itself conveniently accessible. (I know you all know what I’m talking about!) However, I do have health goals that I really want to remain faithful to and I know you do as well. So the best plan of attack is to have plenty of healthy snacking options ready and available. Keep healthy snacks in your desk at work, in your pantry and even in your car.  I have people ask me what healthy snacks I like keeping around, and though I have several favorites I’ll recommend in later articles, I’m going to talk a bit about one of my top favorites.

One snack that I like to have around are nuts because I’m such a health nut! …Ok that was cheesy, but seriously, I really am nuts for nuts! Nuts have so many health benefits packed into each one that it’s a ridiculously quick and delicious way to meet your body’s nutritional needs as well as fulfilling your snack cravings.

Here are some quick health benefits of eating nuts:

  • Nuts are actually very filling, natural energy boosters, and are an excellent source of protein, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids…perfect for snacking on in between meals because you won’t be as hungry when you eat your next meal.
  • They contain healthy fats, which is awesome, but can also have a lot of calories. So you’ll just have to control your portions. One handful is what is typically recommended per day, and let me tell you, that handful as I said earlier, is pretty filling which is why nuts can help maintain your weight and even help you to lose weight because you won’t want to eat as much.
  • They actually help to prevent against osteoporosis, type-2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders. These are very important factors when thinking of how to guard your health.

Beauty Benefits of Nuts:

Yes there are beauty benefits!

  • All nuts contain a substantial amount of vitamin E, which helps to keep the skin looking clear and beautiful.
  • Also the zinc in nuts has double benefits. It helps to build collagen in the skin, keeping it smooth, supple, and firm. And it helps with having healthy hair and nails.
  • If you don’t like to eat nuts straight by themselves, you can make your own trail mix or purchase it; but whatever you do try to get the unsalted mix with minimal candies and sugar. Keep in mind that many of the dried fruits and berries have added sugars. I love dark chocolate chips in my trail mix 😉

I always like taking advantage of as many opportunities possible to add rich nutrients to my diets with amazing internal and external benefits! I hope this helps you better understand the benefits of nuts and seeds!

Blessings & Health to you~ xoxo
